TITLE
Shopping Cart of Life

We’ve represented the volume of food that one Japanese person consumes over the course of 10 years. This amount varies depending on the country or region.
This huge shopping cart represents the volume of food Japanese people eat over the course of ten years. Based on the average annual food consumption of one Japanese person (approximately 618 kg), the total food volume is calculated by using the average weight density of the protein, carbohydrates, and so forth of each food item. The total volume is approximately 810 liters.
This shopping cart was made with “Neputa” technology by student volunteers of Uryuyama Academic Foundation, Kyoto University of the Arts.

If we count as “1” the Neputa cart displayed here which represents the amount of food that one Japanese person eats over the course of ten years, we can see how the amount of food that one person eats in ten years varies by country.
These are the cart sizes of countries and regions not covered in the exhibit.
