UMEBOSHI ~BANPAKU-ZUKE~ 2025→2050

The Umeboshi(pickled plums)we make here, “Expo Pickkes”,
will not be opened until 2050.
It is, in a sense, a “culinary time capsule.”
Who will you share the memories of 2025 with?

25 years from now, you will be able to redeem this ticket at a designated location and enjoy this culinary creation. Will you savor it yourself, or pass it on to someone special?

“Expo Pickles” are made using plums harvested in Wakayama Prefecture in 2025. The pickling will take place inside EARTH MART around June of the same year. Visitors will receive a redemption ticket allowing them to enjoy the pickled plums 25 years later. Inside the pavilion, visitors can also write down their hopes and wishes on wooden ema-shaped cards, which will be entrusted to the future along with the pickles. After the Expo ends, these ema will be ritually blessed at Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine and then stored with the pickled plums by the Kishu Ume Committee like a time capsule until 2050. Details such as the date and location of the 2050 distribution event will be announced on the Kishu Ume Committee’s website when the time draws near.
